Many people take up the hobby of hunting bears. Black bears can be legally hunted in 27 U.S. states. Bear hunting generally takes place in the autumn months and can be a challenging sport. Tim Wells is a bow hunter that films his excursions and uploads them to YouTube. Wells has just under one million subscribers and uploaded a video of intense interaction between his fellow hunter Sydnie and a giant bear. As soon as she’s in place in the brush with her bow, Tim begins to call the bear near. Black bears, which have a range that stretches from Canada in the north to Mexico in the south, primarily inhabit woodlands and feed on fruit, nuts, sprouts, and other vegetation. These bears are expected to have a population of about 800,000, spanning their entire habitat in North America. The bear continues to circle the pair downwind as Sydnie looks visibly nervous about shooting her shot. As she gets more comfortable, the huge predator stays downwind, getting the hunter’s scent. Realizing it was a cub, the pair went into the forest to find a different bear to hunt.
A Second Chance
Before long, they spot an adult black bear guarding a beaver it caught for lunch. A very excited Sydnie shoots the bear, and it quickly scurries off. Now their job is to follow it and finish the job. Sydnie mentions that this is the best hunting trip she’s ever been on, and at one point, she thought she was going to get mauled! In just a few short minutes of trotting through the woods, Tim and his hunting companion come upon the bear lying lifeless on the forest floor. Black bears range from 4 to 7 feet in length from nose to tail, and they stand 2 to 3 feet tall at the shoulders. These bears feature huge ears, a long brown snout, small eyes, round ears, a massive body, and a short tail. Males typically weigh between 150 and 300 pounds. There’s no wonder why Sydnie has a hard time lifting this one’s head for a picture. A comment under Wells’ video reads, “Pretty emotional seeing her excitement and joy in sharing this great hunt with her dad. As the father of an outdoor girl who fishes and hunts with me… I know the joy and I know the emotion of seeing them appreciate what you have shared with them.” We couldn’t agree more!
